An old Russian man threw himself in front of his old dog to protect him from a fierce attack by two dogs during his walk in a park in St. Petersburg.
The dogs attacked the man in order to pounce on the old man’s dog.
A video of the incident has been widely circulated on social media.
The video shows the man desperately defending his old dog, throwing his body over it, exposing himself to being bitten and mauled by two fierce American Staffordshire Terriers, according to Russian media.
The video showed that the two dogs were with their owner on a walk in the same garden, but he did not put a mask on either of them to prevent them from biting, and did not tie them with a leash to prevent them from attacking passersby.
The incident occurred after the two dogs suddenly rushed to attack the old dog, so the owner felt the danger threatening him, and preferred to expose himself to the danger of being bitten rather then let his pet be mauled, so he hurried and covered him with his body.
Despite the old man's desperate attempts to defend his dog, he was bitten and seriously injured in the leg, and was rushed to a veterinarian.
The incident was documented by eyewitnesses who were at the scene, and by surveillance cameras in the park.
The report of the incident reached the neighbourhood police, who summoned the dogs’ owner for investigation.
The owner could face penalties including a fine and a ban on taking dogs outside.
