The Dubai Public Prosecution has referred a government employee to criminal court on robbery charges.
The employee is accused of stealing electronic devices worth Dhs181,000 from his sponsor company.
The accused, whose job is based on communication with other companies to provide the needs of his company’s departments, had used the authority given to him to secretly rob the organisation.
He forged documents and used the papers to steal some electronic items.
He stole 52 devices including phones, laptops and cameras, worth Dhs181,000, which belong to an electronics company.
It was revealed that the accused had stolen another person’s identity to contact the company online and order the devices under his company’s name.
Court officials said that the accused had used his personal e-mail to make the order, using forged purchase documents with his company’s official stamp on them.
“He deliberately did not leave a name or an address on the order, as he was afraid that the company would actually receive the order and he would be exposed,” officials added.
The ordered devices were not paid for by the accused for an entire month.
When he was finally caught, the accused confessed to taking advantage of his authority and forging documents to steal the electronic devices for him.
The victim company had no option but to pay the company for the purchased electronics, having to lose around Dhs189,000 including taxes.
