The two canines (German Shepherds) that mauled a lawyer in Karachi last month will be put down, according to a compromise agreement reached between thedogs’ owner and the victim. Animal right activists call the deal preposterous.
According to a media report, the dogs attacked the lawyer in an upscale Karachi neighbourhood mid-June, when he was out on a morning walk.
The CCTV footage of the incident that went viral on social media showed the two German Shepherds pouncing on the victim and pinning him to the ground violently as he helplessly tried to saved himself from the attack.
Later, the son of the canines' owner intervened to save the lawyer, who was badly mauled and bleeding.
According to the agreement between the lawyer (victim) and the owner, the two dogs will be immediately euthanised by a veterinarian.
The dogs’ owner will also tender an unconditional apology to the victim for the injury caused to him. The canines’ owner will also donate Rs1 million to an animal welfare organistion.
