Dubai plans driverless ropeway transportation system

Dubai is studying to develop an innovative ropeway transportation system that will be fully automatic and driverless.
In this regard Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with French mobility specialist MND.
MND is a leading company in the ropeways industry.
CEO of RTA's Rail Agency Abdul Mohsin Ibrahim Younes and Xavier Gallot-Lavallée, Chairman and CEO of MND, signed the memorandum.
The proposed system will have self-propelled cabins moving over ropes at speeds up to 45 km per hour.
The system will use a minimalist infrastructure and will be easy to integrate with the least possible footprint.
Unlike traditional ropeway transportation, it will be modern, more aesthetic, quieter and more energy sufficient.
The move aims to achieve Dubai’s vision to have 25 per cent of all trips to be self-driving by 2030.
The CABLINE system developed by the ropeways specialist MND, with support of the French State Agency for sustainable development ADEME, is perfectly fitting these objectives and aims at offering a completely new experience for aerial transportation.
CABLINE allow easier maintenance to guarantee high availability rate of the urban transport system and optimal service for the passengers.
