The National Disinfection Programme has started on July 19 from midnight until 5am, Lt. Colonel Jaber Al Mansouri, Head of Department of Serious Accident Investigation at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police, said.
According to the decision of the State Attorney General no. 38 for 2020 to curb the spread of COVID-19, offenders will be fined Dhs3,000 if they leave their permanent or temporary residence during the announced ban times, he added.
Excluded from the ban are some cases of necessity where people go out to buy food or medicines or for health emergencies, he said. These also include categories of vital sectors for which a decision is issued to exclude them from the ban.
“Emergency driving permits according to the Abu Dhabi Police are issued via the website. It is preferable that the request is made well in advance of the leaving time. There are two types of permits: the first is personal through the website and the second is for official authorities and requires communication with the Emergency Management Committee in Abu Dhabi,” Al Mansouri said.
Al Mansouri affirmed that movement across Abu Dhabi cities was not allowed during the period of the National Disinfection Programme, noting that this timing was chosen because it was noticed that less vehicles and individuals move in the streets.
In states of emergency, however, drivers should present their respective traffic permits, which show the state of emergency, he added, noting that in case a fine is issued, drivers have the right to object and submit a grievance to the Federal Public Prosecution.
