Prime Minister Imran Khan has told the youth of Pakistan that one only loses when they give up. His remarks came through his official Twitter handle, where he had posted a video of Dutch runner Sifan Hassan’s victory at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.
The video shows Hassan during a 1500-metre run, where she tripped over an opponent and fell during the final lap. However, the runner got up, continued with the race, and eventually came in first place.
This is "the most important lesson that sports taught me,” Imran wrote on his Twitter account. "You only lose when you give up,” he emphasised to the young people of the nation.
The prime minister was famously an international cricketer, who led the Pakistani team to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup.
The clip featuring Hassan has become viral on social media in recent days. Hassan has won two gold medals and a bronze medal in the Tokyo Games.
Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar recently announced initiating two sports projects under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) in "all federating units of the country.
He said in a tweet that two new Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) projects for sports under the successful youth programme and a talent hunt scheme and a scheme to develop sports academies/high performance centers have been reviewed. Both will be done through the Higher Education Commission and in all provinces, he wrote.
Time to reverse the decades old neglect of sports has come. Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that the federal cabinet had given approval for the grant of loans of Rs315 billion to the youth under the successful youth programme.
