The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a Latin American girl to 10 years in jail to be followed by deportation and fined her Dhs50,000 after she was convicted of possessing and importing eight kilogrammes of cocaine inside her suitcase.
The case dated back to last February when a Dubai Airport’s customs inspector suspected the contents of the girl’s suitcase.
According to the official documents, the customs inspector examined the suitcase and found materials suspected to be cocaine weighing 8 kilogrammes.
The seized materials were referred to the forensic laboratory and the convict to the police. The report of the forensic lab showed that the seized materials were cocaine.
On interrogation, the convict admitted to having imported and possessed cocaine for delivery to a man in the UAE in exchange for $5,000.
