The Public Prosecutor in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Saud Bin Abdullah Al-Mojeb, issued an arrest warrant for a person who appeared in a video clip circulating on social media, in which he stalks a woman in a public place in Al-Kharj Governorate and then beats her, according to local media.
The media quoted an official source in the Saudi Public Prosecution, saying, “Based on what the Parliamentary Monitoring Center submitted of a video clip circulating on social media, the content of which showed that a person stalked a woman in a public place in Al-Kharj Governorate and beat her up.”
The Public Prosecutor issued an arrest warrant for the accused concerned with the criminal behaviour in the video clip and referred to the Public Prosecution.
He added that the arrest warrant was based on Articles (15 and 17) of the Criminal Procedures Law.
The source explained that the Public Prosecution follows up and monitors all behaviours that disturb the peace and tranquility of members of the society and that violate their rights guaranteed by the law.
The authorities will spare no effort in referring the perpetrators to the judiciary to obtain strict punishment.
In July, Riyadh Police arrested a Saudi man for passing lewd comments and filming women cyclists in the national capital.
According to the police, the man, a security guard, in his 30s was on duty when he noticed some female cyclists in the area.
He recorded a video of them and passed a derogatory comment.
Major Khaled Al-Kuraides, Riyadh Police spokesperson, said that the culprit was identified and taken into custody after receiving information about the man.
Major Khaled said what he did is against Islamic and public morals.
The police said legal measures were taken against the person.
With Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman’s vision 2030, Saudi has been reforming several civil and personal laws.
The Crown Prince ordered that women be allowed to drive in the kingdom.
Social activities among all groups of society are gaining popularity.
