Dubai Police arrested an Arab gang of three, including a GCC national on charges of impersonating investigative men, kidnapping and attacking a person and stealing his mobile phone and Dhs80.
The suspects were referred to the Criminal Court, where they were sentenced to 6 months in jail, the deportation of two of them and fines.
The appellate court upheld the ruling.
Details date back to August 2020 when the victim while walking on a Dubai street, was stopped by two people who asked him why he was on the street in the night.
In the meantime, a black coloured vehicle stopped next to them, driven by the third suspect who asked him get in the vehicle and told him that he would be taken to criminal investigation department.
One of the suspects pushed him into the vehicle and then drove to the Bur Dubai area. They changed the vehicle and drove to nearby place.
They then attacked the victim, took his phone and Dhs80.
They asked him for Dhs5,000 to release him but he told them he did not have that amount.
They then asked him to contact one of his friends to prepare even half the amount.
The victim called a friend and told him that three investigation men arrested him and asked for Dhs2,500 to release him.
The victim's friend rushed to the police station and submitted a complaint.
He guided the police to the scene the victim told him about, where the gangsters were arrested.
On being interrogated, they confessed to the charges and the court of first instance issued its ruling which was upheld by the Court of Appeal.
