The Sao Paulo state government said a hot air balloon set the fire in Juguery Park, a nature reserve located about 50 kilometers from the city of Sao Paulo.
The firefighting teams said that the fire destroyed about 1,200 hectares of green areas. The firefighters were able to put out the flames.
The firefighting teams reassured that the fires did not result in significant losses among the animals in the park, most of which are birds and small mammals. Sao Paulo, like other states in the south and southeast of the country, is experiencing a severe drought period.
Usually at this time of year, the weather in Sao Paulo is winter, but temperatures in the city rose this year to an unprecedented level of 31°C, a record that is likely to be broken again by this week's heat wave.
