A female US soldier who cradled a baby in her arms at the airport shared on social media before her death in a suicide attack at Kabul airport that she loved her job.
Pictures of Sgt. Nicole Gee carrying an Afghan child at Kabul airport spread on social media. The US authorities on Saturday said that she died in the explosion that rocked the airport on Thursday.
The US Department of Defence released the names of 13 killed soldiers and found that among them was the 23-year-old female soldier Nicole Gee, a member of the US Marines.
Nicole said a week before her death that she "loves her job" in a post on her Instagram page.
Nicole was a maintenance technician.
She was from California.
She was tasked with assisting women and girls at the Kabul airport during the evacuation.
Nicole's last photo published on Sunday showed her watching a long line of Afghan evacuees.
The images of Nicole have gone viral.
Her image, and other images of other American soldiers carrying or caring for children while they are being evacuated, shook the social networking sites and media in the United States and abroad.
The explosion at the airport killed over 100 people. The attack was claimed by Daesh.
