Abu Dhabi Police overthrew organised drug trafficking networks that included 142 criminal elements of different nationalities and in separate regions in the various emirates of the country, and seized 816 kilogrammes of narcotic substances in several cross-border cases.
Brigadier-General Taher Ghareeb Al Dhaheri, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate in the Criminal Security Sector, stated that the anti-narcotics team monitored the phenomenon of sending random messages through a social media containing pictures, videos and audio messages to promote drugs and claiming their ability to deliver the drug anywhere in the country.
He explained that gang leaders used international phone numbers to spread propaganda randomly to promote narcotic substances.
As a result of search and investigation work, the Anti-Narcotics Directorate managed to overthrow the promoters residing inside the country while they were trying to put the drug in separate locations for delivery.
The Abu Dhabi Police caught them red handed and referred them to the judicial authorities.
He stated that the security procedures followed and the secret operations carried out by the Directorate according to updated security plans had a great impact in overthrowing these criminal networks that were also managed from outside the country, to target the country and drown its youth in the clutches of abuse.
He explained that coordination between the Anti-Narcotics Directorate and the Federal Drug Control Administration at the Ministry of Interior helped achieved success in the operation.
The authorities are pursuing those involved in these cases internationally, in coordination with the authorities of the countries in which the main drug traffickers reside.
He appealed to the public, in the event of receiving messages promoting narcotic substances, not to deal with them at all, ban the number and to report it immediately by contacting the service on the number 8002626.
