The Egyptian Public Prosecution ordered the detention of a doctor and an employee in a private hospital for four days pending investigations, after a video of a nurse being forced to prostrate to a dog sparked widespread anger on social media platforms.
In its statement, the prosecution stated that the police arrested the doctor and his employee, accusing them of bullying a hospital nurse, displaying strength and control over him, exploiting his weakness and ridicule him, as well as using religion to promote extremist ideas with the intention of provoking sedition.
The statement added that the defendants attacked family principles and values in the Egyptian society, and published on the Internet the video that violated the privacy of the victim nurse.
The doctor and the employee who appeared in the filming were arrested, and during their interrogation, they denied what was attributed to them, and justified what appeared in the filming by the habitual acceptance of the victim as a joke.
The accused and others claimed that the doctor's account on the digital communication application WhatsApp was hacked, denying their knowledge of how the circulating clip was published, while they acknowledged the validity of what was contained in the photography and the validity of their appearance in it.
In addition, despite his refusal to talk about the incident, the doctor made brief statements confirming that it was old, and that hackers from a European country had hacked his phone and used the video of the incident to blackmail him and get money from him.
