Sharjah saw record 317 traffic accidents on this day of 2021

The “Rafid” call and control center received 3,230 reports for minor traffic accidents that took place on Sharjah roads during the period from Aug.29 to Sept.9, the Joint Committee for Minor Accidents Reconstruction in the Emirate of Sharjah, formed by the GHQ of Sharjah Police said.

The Committee explained that the highest number of accidents recorded so far in one day this year was on Sept.2.

Rafid recorded 317 accidents on that day alone, which was much higher when compared to the daily average of 213 accidents in 2021.

According to the indicator of response to minor accidents that are reported via the “Rafid” smart application and through contacting the company’s call and control center, the time from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm sees the lion’s share of daily accidents recorded.

It is also noted that about 60 per cent of the recorded accidents occurred due failing to leaving a safe distance between vehicles.

Abdulrahman Bin Kanoon Al Shamsi, Director of Accidents and Roadside Assistance Services Department at Rafid-Member of the Joint Committee, confirmed that the increase in the number of traffic accidents with the start of the back-to-school season was expected due to the intense movement of vehicles and buses on the roads.

“This force some drivers to hasten to arrive to their destinations to escape the congestion on some of the roads leading to schools,” Al Shamsi added.
