His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, approved the start of the first phase of land levelling for the residential areas in Al Shannouf 1-6, totalling 3,000 plots of land at 50 plots in each area.
This was revealed by Engineer Hadef Al Khudr, Project Manager at Sharjah Directorate of Public Works, via the Direct Line programme broadcast live on Sharjah Radio and TV.
The department started work in the areas, using up to 90 machineries to ensure full implementation of the project as fast as possible, he said, adding that the project is scheduled to be completed within a year.
As many as 16 million cubic metres of sand are wanted to be removed from the area and co-ordination is still ongoing with the Department of Town Planning and Survey to obtain the final levels of the area for optimal levelling and handover to their owners, he said.
Additionally, the directorate is working on more than 100,000 survey points in the area to make sure of the backfills required to be implemented therein, he added.
It is co-ordinating with all service authorities from Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority, Department of Town Planning and Survey and Sharjah City Municipality to form unified work teams to supervise and commence work in the project and meet all the needs of these authorities at the initial stage of the project, he said.
He stressed the great interest in the Ghaf trees in the area and the necessity to co-ordinate with the Environment and Protected Areas Authority to preserve them.
