Abu Dhabi Police shared an accident video on its social media platforms and warned the dangers of not obeying traffic rules while driving in the streets.
The police in cooperation with the Monitoring and Control Center, and as part of the "Safety Path" campaign and the "Your Comment" initiative, broadcast a video of a driver who committed a run-over accident at a pedestrian crossing.
The video showed a man crossing the road from a designated place.
The speeding pickup truck with no respect to traffic laws ran over the man.
The motorist did not slow down.
It is believed that the driver was occupied with something else rather than focusing on the road. This resulted in the accident.
The Traffic and Patrols Directorate in the Central Operations Sector called on drivers to reduce speeds and commit to giving priority to pedestrians in the places designated for their crossing, noting that the penalty for not giving priority to pedestrians in the places designated for crossing in accordance with Article (69) is a fine of Dhs500 and 6 traffic points.
The police urged drivers to pay attention to traffic and pedestrians crossing on different roads and to abide by reducing speeds near the places designated for their crossing, in industrial areas and on internal roads in residential neighborhoods, and give them priority in crossing.
Social media users were angry at the driver.
A user wrote on Instagram, “Of course, the car driver is 100% wrong, but the pedestrian must be vigilant in the streets.”
Another one wrote, “No, he should see that it is a pedestrian lane and look to the right and left if there is a speed limit…”
Last week, the police shared a video of a driver who committed several traffic violations, namely not using the signal when changing lanes and overtaking from the shoulder of the road.
The shoulder of the road is an area designated for vehicles layover when necessary without disrupting traffic.
The motorist paid no attention to the above rules.
