The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a ruling issued by the Court of First Instance sentencing an Asian to one year in jail to be followed by deportation and fining him Dhs5,000 after being convicted of attempting to murder his Arab colleague with a knife.
The case dated back to last December when a dispute between two men in a sharing accommodation snowballed into a fight. The convict then brought a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the victim once, causing him to be unable to do anything for more than 20 days.

As the convict was charged with assaulting the victim and in the light of the absence of premeditated murder as demonstrated by the fact that the convict meant to hit the victim and not to kill him and stabbed him only once, the Court of Appeal upheld the ruling issued by the Court of First Instance.
