Global coronavirus caseload crosses 239.5 million

More than 239,506,312 people have been reported infected by the novel coronavirus globally and near 5 million people have died, according to a reputable website https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ tally on Wednesday.
Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in December 2019.

India on Wednesday reported 15,823 fresh COVID cases in the last 24 hours. Total 226 deaths have also been reported in the same time span, pushing the death toll at 451,189, the Union Health Ministry said.
The recovery of 22,844 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients to 33,342,901. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.06 per cent, currently at its highest peak since March 2020.

The active caseload is presently 207,653, which is the lowest in 214 days. Active cases presently constitute 0.61 per cent of the country's total positive cases.
The last 24 hours saw a total of 1,325,399 tests being conducted.
The daily positivity rate is reported to be 1.19 per cent. The daily positivity rate has remained below 3 per cent for the last 44 days and below 5 per cent for 127 consecutive days now.

Brazil registered 185 new COVID-19 deaths, and 7,359 additional coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, the country's Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
Mexico's Health Ministry on Tuesday reported 546 more deaths due to COVID-19, bringing the country's overall number of fatalities to 282,773.
New Zealand on Wednesday reported 55 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19, the majority in the country's largest city of Auckland, up from 43 a day earlier.
New Zealand had been largely virus-free, excluding a small cluster of cases in February, until a Delta outbreak in mid-August forced officials to impose a lockdown in Auckland.
