British police and media reports said that Conservative lawmaker David Amess was stabbed during a meeting with constituents in eastern England on Friday. A man has been arrested.
Essex Police did not name the dead man, but the stabbing victim was widely named as Conservative lawmaker David Amess.
Amess was attacked at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea.
The man was arrested at the site.
Local media reported that the man arrested over stabbing is being held on suspicion of murder.
According to Sky News, a man walked into his constituency surgery and stabbed Amess multiple times.
Essex Police said on Twitter, “A man's been arrested following an incident in #LeighonSea.
“We were called to reports of a stabbing in Eastwood Rd North shortly after 12.05pm.”
