Traffic was closed near the United Nations Headquarters in Manhattan on Friday afternoon as authorities investigated reports of a suspicious package in the area.
According to police, the package was discovered around 10:45am outside the Turkish Consulate, located near the UN Headquarters on First Avenue in Turtle Bay.

A police spokesperson described the package as "an Avon box with weird writing" and noted a bouquet of roses was placed on top of it.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) have set up police cordon and called in a bomb squad after a suspicious package was found in front of the Turkish House in New York, near the United Nations building.
The police have cleared a two-block area as the experts handle the situation.
Reports indicate that the alert was called in to police at around noon local time.
