Asian gets one month in jail, deportation for stealing sunglasses

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian, 28, to one month in jail to be followed by deportation on theft charges.
The defendant took advantage of a salesman in an optics store being busy with another customer and stole sunglasses worth Dhs1,380.
The Court of Appeal corrected the ruling and fined the defendant an amount equal to the price of the sunglasses.
The case dated back to last August when a salesman discovered that sunglasses had been stolen from a store he was working for.
According to the official documents, the salesman filed a complaint in which he stated that an Asian had managed to steal sunglasses while he was busy with another customer.
The salesman added that the Dubai Police were able to identify and arrest the suspect, who confessed to the charge levelled against him.
Recently, in a separate case, the Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian to one month in jail with stay of execution, fined him Dhs5,000 and ordered his store to be shut down for one month after being convicted of selling receivers that decode satellite channels without permission from an authorised channel agent.
