The Joint Committee for Traffic Safety in Abu Dhabi launched an awareness campaign to enhance road safety and security in the emirate.
The campaign aims at educating the public about the rules of the “Stop” sign and the importance of adhering to it in order to maintain the safety of road users, and to avoid accidents and traffic violations.
The campaign includes broadcasting awareness messages through social media, media meetings and educational workshops, to enhance drivers' awareness of the need to commit to a complete stop at the "Stop" sign or line at intersections or road filters.
The campaign is expected to play a great role in raising awareness of safety procedures, especially in light of the increasing number of traffic violations resulting from ignoring the “Stop” sign and not complying with the complete stop.
Statistics issued by the Abu Dhabi Police indicate that the number of traffic violations registered due to drivers’ failure to comply with traffic signs reached 492 violations, during the period from January to September 2021, knowing that the fine for non-compliance with “Stop” sign is Dhs500.
Drivers must stop completely at “Stop” sign or line, before resuming moving at intersections, where priority is for vehicles coming from the other direction.
So, drivers are advised to stop completely before entering the main street until making sure that it is clear and safe to enter.
