The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a verdict issued by the Court of First Instance sentencing two Asians to one year in jail and a fine of Dhs750,000 after they were convicted of stealing cash and jewellery from a house in which one of them worked.
Both will be deported after serving their sentence.
The case dates back to the period between 2019 and 2021 when the victim discovered that Dhs5,000 and jewellery had been stolen from his house.
After checking the safe, however, the victim found that Dhs25,000 as well as precious stones and gold jewellery had disappeared and consequently he called the police.
Following further investigations and after collecting inferences, a servant working for the victim confessed to the theft.
He said he used to steal money and gold jewellery and sell them with the help of his accomplice.
The second defendant stated in the investigations that he used to get gold jewellery from the first defendant without knowing they had been stolen, adding that the first defendant used to give him Dhs100-200 every time he sold the jewellery he got.
