Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) shared videos showing a number of road accidents, in which they highlighted the risks of preoccupying with other things while driving, and the risk of jumping the red signal.
The initiative is part of the second episode of the Darb Al Salama programme, in cooperation with the Follow-up and Control Centre of Abu Dhabi Police.
The police explained that preoccupation results in sudden deviation, specially when using the phone or when the driver speaks to his companions, which may result in horrible traffic accidents.
The police warned of the risk of jumping the red signal, where it may cause traffic accidents, pointing out that the fine of jumping the red signal is classified as one of the hazardous violations, which is committed due to overspeeding at intersections to catch the green signal, or due to lack of attention.
According to the ADP, article (32 A) on traffic control rules and procedures number for 2017, concerning preoccupation while driving is applied with a fine of Dhs800 and 4 traffic points.
The police noted that Law No. 5 for 2020 concerning vehicle impoundment in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi indicated that the fine of jumping the red signal is Dhs1,000 and 12 traffic, in addition to 30-day vehicle impoundment for a maximum of three months, until paying Dhs50,000, the impoundment fine. In case of not paying the fine after three months, the vehicle is put for sale in auction.
The driver’s licence is also withdrawn.
