It is mentioned that International Volunteer Day is an annual occasion in which individual volunteers, communities and organisations are given an opportunity to enhance their contribution to development at the local, national and international levels.
The United Nations General Assembly adopted International Volunteer Day on December 5, and world governments and civil society organisations began celebrating this day for economic and social development and urged measures to raise awareness of the importance of the contribution of volunteer service.
The aim is to motivate people in all walks of life to provide their services as volunteers, both at home and abroad.
