Queues at London vaccination center as booster campaign picks up

Hundreds of people queue outside St Thomas hospital in London to get their third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, as the UK ramps up its rollout to ensure all adults can receive a booster by the end of December.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Monday that at least one person has died in Britain after being infected with the Omicron variant.

Boris faces the wrath of his majority in parliament on Tuesday in a vote that promises to be unsettling over measures he imposed to combat the outbreak of the omicron mutant. On Sunday, Johnson warned of a "massive wave" looming from the mutant Omicron in Britain, which is one of the European countries worst affected by the epidemic, as it recorded more than 146,000 deaths.

This wave of injuries is hampering the English Football League, as Manchester United postponed Tuesday's match against Brentford due to the infection of a number of players and staff with Covid-19. Johnson announced last week new restrictions to combat the outbreak of Covid-19, including the wearing of the face masks in closed places, daily examinations of contacts, and mandatory quarantine and health certificates on large occasions, which are necessary measures, according to the government, to avoid exhausting the capabilities of the hospital system in the coming weeks.
