Two teenagers, brother and sister, escaped from being burned to death in an apartment on fire on the fourth floor of a New York building.
The two escaped from the window and got stuck in the building's external pipes, according to a video that was widely circulated on social media sites.
The incident took place on Thursday, in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York.
The video showed a fire in a 14-storey building, and the girl and her brother trying to escape from their apartment after the fire trapped them.
As columns of fire and smoke rose from the building, a young girl tried to get out of the burning apartment through the window, and after her attempt succeeded in getting a hold on the external pipes.
Moments later, her brother appeared, and he also managed to get out, at a time a number of people appeared at the bottom of the building trying to provide protection for the two children in case they fall.
The 18-year-old and her 13-year-old brother managed to get off the burning floor and were rescued.
They were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
According to the police, the accident caused the injury of seven people and the death of one person, at a time when the authorities suspect that the fire was caused by the explosion of the lithium battery of e-bikes in the burning apartment.
