At least four people were injured in a fire on Thursday at the Exxon complex in Baytown, Texas, one of the largest refining and petrochemical facilities in the United States.
Exxon said that the four injured are in stable condition, noting that the rest of the individuals have all been evacuated.
An official in the company explained that the fire affected a unit for the production of gasoline.
The Baytown facility includes a chemical plant and an organic compound called olefins, as well as the fourth largest oil refinery in the United States, with a processing capacity of 560,500 barrels per day of crude.
Sources familiar with the operations at the facility said that the fire broke out in a hydro-treatment unit at the oil refinery, which was closed on Wednesday, due to a leak in the auxiliary diversion pipe system, adding that the injured are contractors who were working to repair the leak.
