The Syrian Ministry of Interior on Friday published the confessions of the perpetrators in the case of Ayat Al Rifai.
The confessions have evoked a strong response from the Syrian society with calls for severest possible punishment for the perpetrators.
The victim died after being beaten up violently by her husband, his father and his mother, after which she was taken to hospital, where she died.
On being questioned, the husband’s father confessed the family used to beat the victim up, and that he hit her the night she died on the head with a stick.
The victim’s husband confessed that he quarreled with her after his father beat her up and after sometime he hit her head several times in the wall.
After the family discovered that Ayat was motionless, they took her to a hospital, where she died.
The Syrian Ministry of Interior arrested the brother of the culprit in the wake of the latter's threat to the victim and her family against reporting the case to police.
The Ministry affirmed that it would present the victim’s husband, his parents and brother to the competent judiciary, to receive the just penalty for their awful crime.
