UAE calls for UN Security Council meeting on Houthi terrorist attacks in Abu Dhabi

The United Arab Emirates submitted a letter to the Kingdom of Norway, the President of the United Nations Security Council, requesting a meeting of the Council regarding the Houthi terrorist attacks on Abu Dhabi, which took place on Jan.17.

The letter condemns the terrorist Houthi militia's targeting of civilians facilities on UAE soil, in a flagrant violation of international law.

It calls on the Security Council to condemn the Houthi attacks unequivocally and with one voice.

Lana Nusseibeh, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, said, "The UAE condemns in the strongest terms the Houthis' targeting of civilians in a flagrant violation of international law."

She added, "The UAE extends its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased, and we wish the injured a speedy recovery."

Nusseibeh indicated that "this illegal and alarming escalation is another step in the Houthis' efforts to spread terrorism and chaos in our region, and another attempt by the Houthis, to use the capabilities which they have illegally acquired, in defiance of the sanctions imposed by the United Nations, to threaten peace and security.”

The Houthi militia had targeted, at 10am, on Jan.17, 2022, the Musaffah ICAD 3 area and the new construction area at Abu Dhabi International Airport, which are civilian infrastructure.

The attacks resulted in the explosion of three oil tanks and the death of 3 civilians, two of them of Indian nationality and the third of Pakistani nationality, and the injury of 6 other civilians.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attacks.
