The coronavirus has killed at least 5,480,481 people since the outbreak emerged in China in December 2019, according to news agency AFP.
The Omicron variant caseload now stands at 9,287 cases in India.
Health minister Veena George said in a statement on Thursday that the massive surge in the third wave is due to the equal spreading of Delta and Omicron variants. Though Omicron is less harmful, one should not neglect it. It spreads much faster than the other variants. People should not take it lightly. Every single person should strictly follow the Covid protocol.
