Dubai raises awareness of e-scooter safety

The General Department of Traffic in Dubai Police has recently launched an awareness campaign for e-scooter riders in various areas of the emirate, including Al Rigga Street, Al Muraqqabat Street, and Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, explained that the campaign aims to educate e-scooter riders about traffic rules and instructions, roads and paths designated for this type of transport, as well as related security and safety requirements.

Brigadier Al Mazrouei revealed that several e-scooter riders were recently involved in severe accidents resulting in various injuries due to negligence and non-compliance with traffic rules.

Brigadier Al Mazrouei added that e-scooter riders must comply with the rules and regulations set by relevant authority, which are aligned with the traffic rules law. They govern the use of e-scooters and the associated traffic safety stipulations such as the wearing of the protective helmet. He added that the e-scooter must be parked at designated places and must not be left in places that trigger traffic bottlenecks. Riders must ride cautiously and avoid causing traffic risks to other road users.

Brigadier Al Mazrouei further urged e-scooter riders to maintain distance between other vehicles and people walking on footpaths and refrain from holding or carrying any materials that may affect the balance of the e-scooter.

MASSIVE PLANTATION: Dubai Municipality said that it has added 2.83 million square metres of green areas to the city by planting more than 170,000 trees in various locations, as well as along roads and squares in Dubai in 2021. An average of 466 trees were planted per day, 130% higher than the initial target, increasing the total area of green spaces under the Municipality’s supervision to around 43.83 million square metres.

Describing the growth in green areas as an important environmental achievement, Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said: “Dubai Municipality has been working to significantly increase green areas in the emirate and intensifying horticultural work along all main and secondary roads as well as residential areas in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai a green and sustainable city and enhance people’s quality of life and happiness. The landscaping work also supports the objectives of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan to expand green areas in the city.”
