The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced three people to one year in jail to be followed by deportation for two of them on charges of impersonating policemen and stealing Dhs121,000 from two Asians after entering their residence and tying them up.
The case dates back to last October when the victims filed a complaint in which they stated that they were detained and robbed by a gang of three people, one of whom was a Gulf citizen.
According to the victims’ statement in the investigations, they were surprised by somebody knocking at the door of their residence on the day of the incident. When one of them opened the door, a Gulf national showed them a card through which he alleged he was a policeman from the Criminal investigation Department. The other two enquired about the victims’ ID cards and residences.
One of the victims added that the three people searched their room and found Dhs121,000 that belonged to him. Later, they tied the two victims up and closed the door from outside and ran away.
The second victim said the defendants took his passport, ID card and other documents, adding that he managed to untie himself and sought the help of assersby.
After receiving a report on the incident, the police were able to gather inferences that led to the arrest of one of the defendants. He confessed to being involved in the crime, which was planned by the Gulf citizen, against Dhs5,000. He later led the police to the residence of the other two defendants.
