Three years’ jail for four Africans in theft case

The Dubai Criminal Court convicted a gang of four Africans, one of them is a fugitive, and sentenced them to 3 years in jail to be followed by deportation after serving their sentences, for stealing Dhs670,000 from the safe of a cargo company after breaking into it and threatening the accountant and two workers with a knife.

The case dates back to October 2021, when an accountant filed a report stating that he was robbed under duress while he was on duty in a freight company.

He added that an African person entered the company to inquire about the value of shipping goods to an African country, then he presented him a list of the value of the freight.

The African then went to the waiting area holding his phone, and after 10 minutes, three other Africans entered the place and seized the phones of the employees there.

The accountant added that one of the suspects threatened him with a knife which he placed on his neck and asked him to open the company’s safe, from which he stole Dhs670,000, while the other three threatened the workers and closed the company’s door. After the theft they fled from the place.

A policeman said that an investigating team collected evidence and took the recording of the cameras in the company.

It turned out that the victim’s statement was correct. The suspects consequently were identified. They took a taxi to a neighbouring emirate and they lost the phone of one of the victims in the back seat of the vehicle and which its driver handed over to the police station.

The policeman added that the first suspect was arrested in possession of Dhs39,000. He confessed the amount was his share in the theft and guided the police to the other suspects who were arrested in possession of Dhs30,000 and confessed that the remaining amount was with the fugitive.
