Maryam Al Beloushi, an Emirati student at the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, invented a project she called a pedestrian rescuer, which aims at reducing traffic accidents of pedestrians.
The technology is an electrical circuit which can be installed on pedestrian lines in traffic lights to monitor the movement of pedestrians.
Al Beloushi explained that the idea of the project came because many people are always busy with their mobile phones while waiting for the red light to turn green, which results in their distraction when crossing the pedestrian lines, which may endanger their lives.
Maryam indicated that the circuit includes specialised electrical wires to emit light and wires to release sound, which work automatically when anyone presses the pedestrian lines when the traffic light is red. Maryam affirmed that she is about to present the idea of the project to the competent authorities in the UAE to adopt and implement it in the UAE first, and then launch it globally.
