Federal Minister for Communication Murad Saeed has sent a legal notice Prime Minister Imran Khan’s ex-wife Reham Khan for disgracing him in the book she wrote three years ago.
The notice states she used her book to spread propaganda against the minister by lying about "illicit” relations between him and the premier. He debunked the draft and said it’s being used to slander him on television and social media.
"Dirty propaganda is being used to deem Saeed’s achievements controversial,” the notice pointed out, adding that earlier, when a draft of the book was leaked, Reham Khan never denied or commented it.
The minister has sought a written explanation and apology from her in 14 days and warned to file a defamation case against her if she fails to do so.
Saeed also sent notices to various TV programmes and social media accounts that "disrespected and disgraced” him quoting Reham Khan’s book.
Earlier this month, the minister filed a complaint against media personality Mohsin Baig as well, accusing him of "character assassination” during a TV talk show.
The topic of the programme was the ministries’ performance awards. The host asked her panelists the "real reason” for Saeed’s ministry ranking first. Baig responded that he didn’t know but the reason was "written in Reham Khan’s book.”
Immediately after the FIR was registered with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), a team raided Baig’s house. The FIA said Baig shot at and roughed two officers. After an hour of fighting, the journalist was arrested and case was registered against him for attacking government officials.
Baig’s wife has also filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court, saying armed men in civil dress barged into the journalist’s house and misbehaved with the guard.
