The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian to three months in jail and fined him Dhs2,000 on charges of stealing a vehicle to run away from people who wanted to assault him before he discovered that the vehicle owner’s wife was inside the vehicle. He will be deported after serving his jail term.
The case dates back to last December when an Arab woman filed a complaint in which she stated that her vehicle had been stolen by coercion.
According to the complainant’s statement in the investigations, she was surprised by an Asian sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle while she was waiting in the front of a veterinary clinic in the Dubai International City.
The complainant added that the Asian attempted to drive the car but she tried to stop him and called her husband, who came out of the clinic quickly, caught the defendant and tried to stop him.
The latter, however, kicked her husband and punched him several times, causing multiple injuries to him, and drove the vehicle before it hit the pavement.
Supported by a building guard, her husband managed to chase the defendant, bring him under control, got him out of the vehicle and prevented him from leaving until the police arrived.
The complainant’s husband stated that he took his dog to a veterinary clinic for medical treatment but was surprised by a call from her wife who asked him for help to prevent a man from stealing his vehicle.
The man, however, took him by surprise, assaulted him and hit the pavement with his vehicle, he added, noting that he could bring the defendant under control with the help of a building guard.
On interrogation, the defendant denied the charge of attempting to steal the vehicle, adding that he tried to use it to run away from people who wanted to assault him.
He said he saw the vehicle when he was running away but did not noticed that a woman was inside, he said.
He opened the driver’s door and tried to drive the vehicle after asking the woman to get out of the vehicle, he added.
