The Dubai Appellate Court commuted a life jail term issued by the Court of First Instance against an Arab manager with Western citizenship, to 15 years in jail and uphold his deportation after serving the jail term.
The suspect was charged with detaining an Asian maid who worked for him and assaulted her until she died due to his ill-treatment.
Details of the case dated back to September 2020, when an Arab manager admitted an Asian woman to the intensive care unit in a hospital in Dubai due to her multiple injuries. Minutes later, the doctor in charge announced the woman's death, and a police report was opened.
According to the forensic report, the maid was assaulted for several months before her death, which resulted in the collapse of her health condition. She was later died due to injuries and signs of assault in different parts of her body.
Investigations found that the victim worked as a maid in the house of the suspect. Interrogations revealed that he was fired from his job about 6 months ago and was always at home. During interrogation, he confessed that he noticed the victim's failure in her work and had directed her to do her job well. He also confessed to assaulting her and illegally detaining her.
According to the forensic report, it was found that the cause of death was injuries, fractures and wounds in different parts of her body, some of which dated back to 6 months before her death. So the Dubai Public Prosecution referred him to court where he was sentenced to 15 years in jail.
