The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Arab to one year in jail to be followed by deportation after he was convicted of forging official and unofficial documents and using the same to defraud a fellow man. The defendant, however, was acquitted of the charge of seizing Dhs360,000.
The case dated back to March last year when an Arab on a visit visa filed a complaint that he had been defrauded by a fellow man. According to his testimony in the investigations, he communicated with a resident of Dubai to import seven vehicles from the UAE to his homeland as recommended by one of his friends.
The defendant told the complainant that he was ready to help. Later, the defendant told him that seven vehicles were offered for lower than the usual price and asked for Dhs360,000.
After sending seven export certificates with different names, the defendant asked the victim to wait until the vehicles were shipped. The defendant, however, kept procrastinating and the victim then lost contact with him.
The victim decided to visit Dubai to meet the defendant and find out the reason for his delay in shipping the vehicles, but the defendant kept procrastinating. When the documents were presented to the competent authorities, they were found to be forged. The defendant was arrested but denied knowing anything about the submitted documents and seizing any money from him.
