Up to Dhs5,000 fine for violating bikes regulations in Abu Dhabi

The Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi has set a list of 19 violations and administrative fines ranging between Dhs200-5,000 for facilities operating in bicycle rental services and bikes riders in the emirate.

This was included in the Decision No. 21 of 2022 issued by Falah Mohammed Al Ahbabi, Head of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi, regulating the use of bicycles or electric bikes in Abu Dhabi.

The decision was published in the Official Gazette issued by the General Secretariat of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi.

Among the violations included in the decision are four for bikes riders, three of which attract a fine of Dhs200 each.

These three are failure to meet the registration conditions of a bike, non-compliance with the instructions contained in the signboards or any means for bicycles, and failing to abide by the approved technical specifications.

While, the fourth violation, which attract a fine of Dhs500, is to ride a bike on road and in open spaces is Dhs500.

The decision also set 15 violations and fines for facilities, among of which nine violations that attract a fine of Dhs500 each.

These include operating bicycles that do not conform to the approved technical specifications, failing to maintain a bicycle according to the requirements issued by the Integrated Transport Centre, failing to provide a contact number for bicycle users to report any emergency during the rental period, failing to provide safety conditions and instructions for riding bicycles by any means determined by the ITC, failing to provide electric bicycles with GPS or tracking system that conforms to the approved technical specifications.

The table included 3 violations that attract a fine of Dhs1,000 each.

The first is to stop bicycles randomly on pedestrian paths, road, entrances and exits to homes or buildings.

The second is failure to provide data, information, reports and documents requested by the Department of Municipalities and Transport or the ITC, while the third is to rent bicycles for those are under 18.

It also included two fines of Dhs2,500 each. The first is to practice the activity with an expired permit, and the second is non-compliance with the limits of the permit.

Meanwhile the fine for practicing the activity in the emirate without a permit from the ITC attracts a fine of Dhs5,000.

The decision further set 18 obligations for the facilities, and the users of bicycles and electrics bikes must abide by them.

It also stipulated that the owners of bicycles and facilities must register bicycles in accordance with the decisions issued by the Department of Municipalities and Transport. The decision also specified a period of 6 months from the date of its announcement for the establishments to rectify their status in line with the provisions of this decision.
