The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an African woman in presence and her brother in absentia to six months in jail to be followed by deportation and fined them Dhs7,700 after being convicted of kidnapping a man and detaining him inside an apartment in collaboration with another man, who is still at large. The defendants also stole the victim’s mobile phone and a sum of money that was in his possession.
The case dated back to November last year when an African filed a complaint in which he stated that he had been kidnapped, assaulted and robbed by coercion by three Africans.
According to his statement in the investigations, the victim received a phone call from the African woman with whom he had an affair and was asked to meet her in her residence.
No sooner he victim arrived in place and found the African woman and her brother waiting for him than the latter tied him and kept him in the apartment, he said, adding that they stole his mobile phone and Dhs2,500 that was in his possession, while he kept screaming for help inside the apartment.
Some 30 minutes later, the woman’s brother decided to transport the victim to Sharjah for fear the incident would be reported to the police by the building guard or a neighbour. While transporting the victim, however, the defendants stopped near a grocery to buy water at the victim’s request. In the meantime, the victim took advantage of the situation and ran away from the vehicle to report the incident to the police. The woman was arrested in the same place.
A policeman stated in the investigations that the woman confessed to having lured the victim to her residence in collaboration with her brother and another man fir revenge as he previously deceived her mother and took all her money.
The woman added that the victim arrived at the exact time and was taken by surprise by her brother with the help of another man. They later forced him to enter the apartment, assaulted him and stole his mobile phone and Dhs2,500 that was in his possession, she added.
