The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of a woman whose video of assaulting two girls in a train over their outfits sparked outrage in social media.
According to reports in local media the suspect reportedly did not like the clothes one of the girls wore and described them as obscene.
In an official statement, the ministry said that the necessary investigations on the video clip circulated on the Facebook were immediately conducted and that the woman was identified and arrested.
It was found out that she was a housewife residing in the Dar Al area in Cairo and had a criminal record.
On being confronted, she confessed to reprimanding the two girls.
According to the “Cairo 24” website, when the women entered the metro carriage, she found girls wearing obscene clothes, so she tried to advise them. But the dispute escalated and developed into a verbal altercation.
