The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Sharjah Police arrested two men on charges of stealing a trailer and trip gear that were in front of a house in the Al Barashi area in Sharjah after the house owner posted a video clip showing the theft. Colonel Omar Abu Al Zoud, CID director, explained that as soon as it received the video clip, which was widely circulated on social media, the CID formed a search and investigation team of detectives to gather the necessary inferences.
As a result, the team was able to identify the perpetrators and to arrest them in less than two hours after the video clip went viral. According to Abu Al Zoud, the house owner, who discovered that his trailer and trip gear had been stolen, checked the surveillance cameras to find that the theft took place in the early morning.
He subsequently posted the video clip before filing an official complaint accordingly. The efforts made by the CID detectives led the perpetrators to be rapidly identified and arrested, Abu Al Zoud said, adding that they were being interrogated before being referred to the public prosecution.
Abu Al Zoud called on members of the society to avoid posting videos about thefts or illegal transgressions that take place in their property in order not to be subject to legal accountability. He advised them to file official complaints instead, stressing the importance of installing surveillance cameras on homes as they play a key role in detecting crimes happening in those homes, especially in the absence of their owners.
