A car owner has a grace period of 30 days to renew an expired driving licence in case they have caused an accident so that insurance coverage would be provided to them, sources working in the insurance sector said, noting that failure to renew the licence would hold them responsible for the full cost of the accident.
According to the sources, the Central Bank of the UAE has made an amendment to the unified document, allowing a driver with expired driving licence who has caused an accident to renew it within a period of 30 days from the date of the accident so as to avail of the necessary insurance coverage.
On the other hand, Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that people interested in getting a driving licence can now apply through the RTA website or visit the nearest centres.
The applicant must meet the criteria to get his details processed.
