A Central Asian driver managed to steal Dhs3 million in cash and jewels estimated at the same amount from his female employer in collaboration with four others after they stormed his employer’s room and threatened to kill her baby. The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced them to five years in jail to be followed by deportation. The court of Appeal upheld the ruling and fined the convicts Dhs6 million.
The case dated back to November last year when the victim filed a complaint in which she stated that she had been robbed under duress after the convicts threatened to kill her baby.
According to her statement in the investigations, she was surprised by her private driver inside her bedroom waking her up in the early hours of the morning. He was holding her 8-month baby when he threatened to kill him if she would not give him everything in the safe of her bedroom.
The victim added that she had to hand the key of the safe over to the driver, who was followed by four others, for fear he would kill her baby, particularly that one of them was holding a knife near him.
She explained that the driver and the other accomplices stole Dhs2 million from the safe in addition to jewels and precious stones of well-known brand estimated at Dhs3 million.
The convicts collected the stolen items inside a suitcase and asked her to give them the key to another in the adjacent room where they stole Dhs1 million and fled away in her car, the victim said.
When the victim inspected the villa, she found that all those who worked in the villa were tied up with an adhesive tape in the first floor.
According to the official documents, a team of detectives managed to locate the driver and his accomplices and to arrest them all inside an apartment while preparing to leave the country. On interrogation, they confessed to the charges levelled against them.
