Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi highlighted the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority’s (SBA) critical role through its various media platforms in providing meaningful content to the audience that contributes to immunising society from extraneous ideas or phenomena and the importance of research and expanding knowledge for media figures in order to link ideas and recipients.
Sheikh Sultan said this while attending the third Media Seminar of the SBA.
Sheikh Sultan delivered his speech at the Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre.
The Sharjah Ruler praised the efforts of SBA’s employees in broadcasting Sharjah development journey, its activities and events, and meaningful programmes to the people.
During the meeting, several primary issues were addressed by the Sharjah Ruler to support the Authority’s roles and the content it provides to the audience, which plays a significant role in preserving the identity, language, religion, heritage, and history of Sharjah and its citizens.
Furthermore, he reviewed the journey of culture and knowledge in Sharjah, addressing the efforts made to develop education for more than 50 years, stressing the need to provide meaningful content that contributes to immunising society from extraneous ideas or phenomena.
He also dealt with the history of the Authority since its establishment and its follow-up to all implemented programmes professionally, shedding light on various cultural and family programmes of Sharjah’s entities.
Sheikh Sultan pointed out the importance of research and expanding knowledge for media figures to link ideas and recipients, as well as the constant development aimed at providing materials in the interest of current and future generations. At the end of the speech, the Sharjah Ruler gave several suggestions to the Authority’s employees, ensuring constant improvements in Arabic language, and acquiring knowledge, as media figures occupy a vital role in community growth.
Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director-General of SBA; Rashid Abdullah Al Obed, Director of SBA; Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of Sharjah Media Council; along with several directors, presenters, producers were present during the speech.
Separately, Sheikh Sultan has directed the Department of Culture (DoC) to organise periodic poetry gatherings in the continent of Africa.
Abdullah Bin Muhammad Al Owais, Head of the Department, said that Sheikh Sultan’s new initiative comes in the interest of sponsoring the Arabic language and literature.
This initiative complements the activities and literary forums organised by the Department in the Arab world.
The Department will start implementing the first phase of this initiative, including organising poetry gatherings in Senegal, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Nigeria, Chad and South Sudan, starting next June, according to the 2022 schedule.
Al Owais stated that the initiative of the Sharjah Ruler constitutes a bridge for cultural relations with creators in all countries.
He added that poetry gatherings in Africa constitute real support for the Arabic language.
Recently, Sheikh Sultan ordered the allocation of Dhs2.5 million to be directed towards the purchasing of books from the 139 publishers participating in the 13th edition of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF), organised by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA).
Envisioned and led by the Sharjah Ruler, this cultural initiative is observed annually to promote the emirate’s efforts to support the development of the global publishing industry, as well as to ensure that young readers and knowledge seekers in particular who visit any of the six branches of the Sharjah Public Library (SPL) are able to enjoy access to creative and valuable content being produced globally in the field of children’s and young adult’s literature.
Furthermore, the initiative has had a key role in advancing SPL’s mission to serve as a vibrant hub of knowledge and culture for all members of the UAE community.
