Maid jailed for assaulting employer

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an African maid to one year in jail to be followed by deportation after she was convicted of assaulting her female employer, breaking her finger and causing a sustainable disability to her following an argument between the two parties.

The case dated back to a complaint filed by a Gulf woman in which she stated that she had been assaulted by her maid. The complainant stated that an argument that had taken place between her and her maid led the latter to assault the former, punch her and pull her by her hair until she fell to the ground.

The complainant stated in the public prosecution’s investigations that she had sought help from her children in the same house who pulled the maid away from her and called the police and ambulance. The maid was arrested and the complainant was transferred to the hospital for the necessary medical treatment.

According to the forensic report, the complainant sustained multiple injuries and bruises in different parts of her body and her finger was broken as a result of the maid’s assault.

On interrogation, the maid denied assaulting her employer but admitted that she broke her finger after her employer attempted to beat her.

Moreover, an African brought 600 grammes of narcotics in his suitcase and alleged that they belonged to a female passenger on board of the same flight. The court sentenced him to 10 years in jail to be followed by deportation and fined him Dhs50,000.

The case dated back to November last year when a customs inspector at Dubai Airport discovered three rolls suspected to be narcotics inside the suitcase of an African coming to the UAE.

According to his testimony in the investigations, the customs inspector said the baggage scanner showed that there was something abnormal in the African’s suitcase. He consequently inquired from the African if he had any prohibited materials inside the suitcase but the latter denied.

When he began searching the African’s suitcase manually, the customs inspector found three rolls weighing 600 grams suspected to be marijuana.
