The Department of Criminal Investigation at the General Command of Umm Al Quwain Police managed to arrest a gang that specialised in stealing modern and luxury cars belonging to car rental offices in the United Arab Emirates.
Colonel Saeed Obaid Bin Aran - Director of the Department of Criminal Investigation, said that several reports were received from the owners of car rental offices stating that a person called and communicated with their offices, and requested luxury and modern cars and delivered them to the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, and the employees of those offices completed the transactions.
The transaction was done electronically, without verifying the validity of the data, as well as without any knowledge of the person who requested those vehicles.
The director of the department explained that upon receiving the reports, search and investigation teams were formed, as the investigations conducted by the work team indicated the presence of a gang consisting of several people of different Arab nationalities that communicate with car rental offices and request luxury cars using identities belonging to other people to remove suspicions from them and receive the vehicles.

He stated that the gang members had received a number of these vehicles in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, and began to disable and dispose of the vehicle tracking device, so that the movement of the vehicles would not be monitored by the rental offices.
The director of the department said that our investigations indicated that this gang is moving between the emirates.
The police arrested a number of its members.
The culprits under duress confessed to the charges against them.
The Director of the Department of Criminal Investigation and Investigations thanked the field work team in arresting the gang members.
He also appealed to the owners of car rental offices to check the data of vehicle renters by presenting the original documents of the renter and recipient before handing over the vehicles.
