Strong quake hits eastern Taiwan, jolts town in northern Japan

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Monday in Taiwan's east, 38 kilometres south of Hualien city, the US Geological Survey said.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The quake had an estimated depth of 10 kilometres, according to USGS, and struck at 09:05 local time (0105 GMT).

A clip of a tranquil lakeside scene suddenly beginning to violently judder as the ground moved was posted on Facebook by a national park in Hualien.
Meanwhile, a shallow earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 shook the city of Suzu at the tip of the Noto peninsula in northern Japan on Monday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The quake was 10 km deep and measured a "strong 5" on Japan's earthquake intensity scale of 7 in Suzu city, on the Sea of Japan coast. There was no danger of a tsunami, JMA said.
A quake jolted the same region on Sunday afternoon.
