The Dubai Court of Appeal commuted a verdict issued by the Court of First Instance against a Ukrainian visitor, who was fined Dhs10,000 to be followed by deportation over charge of consuming drugs.
The Court reduced the fine to Dhs3,000 and cancelled the deportation measure, due to the war conditions in Ukraine. Earlier in November last year, the security teams at the Dubai Police received information that a Ukrainian visitor had consumed and possessed narcotics.
Accordingly, the accused was seized and her house and her vehicle were searched, but no narcotics were found. Then, she was transferred to the criminal laboratory, where she was found positive to cocaine. The accused also confessed to consuming cocaine.
Ali Al Abadi, the suspect's lawyer, appealed to the Court of Appeal to commute the verdict by reducing the fine and canceling the deportation measures due to the war conditions taking place in her homeland.
